The Only Way Is Up In The Italian Radical Trophy!

The 2010 Italian Radical Trophy (IRT) was officially launched at the Bologna Motorshow this weekend, with Radical Sportscars and Autosport Sorrento working in partnership to establish this exciting new series. The 12-round series is open to both Powertec-engined SR3 and SR4 sportscars, and SR4s powered by a customer’s own engine.

This is Radical’s first sanctioned hillclimb series, with a class structure in which both the SR3 and SR4 can compete.

On display in Bologna were an SR8, SR3 and SR4, constructed to the IRT specification. The 1300 and 1500 cars also take advantage of Class E2B of the Italian national hillclimb series, already contested by Autosport Sorrento. E2 has both 1300cc and 1600cc categories, for which the SR3 and SR4 are eligible, and highly competitive against rival machinery. Entry for the 2010 season is included in the purchase price of a new IRT-spec Radical; other benefits of the series include overalls and safety equipment for competitors, quality Italian hospitality and spare parts sales at each event.

Despite the absence of several major manufacturers, the show was extremely busy, and in the motorsport hall in particular with many Italian drivers visiting the stand to check out the announcement of the IRT and the championship prize, a drive in a round of the Radical European Masters. Tonino Esposito of Autosport Sorrento was very encouraged with the number of drivers wanting to test drive a Radical prior to signing up for IRT, full details of which can be found here.
